Introducing: Kathryn McKee and Sadglint

We launch our debut record in 2 and a bit weeks, and we're all starting to get very excited about it.For our launch show on June 7 at West End's lovely and intimate "The Box", we're going to be playing alongside some of our favourite Brisbane peeps. Brought up on strict diet of piano, it wasn’t until the age of 16 that Kathryn discovered her true love, the cello.  Two years later she was accepted into the University of Queensland School of Music, from which she emerged with a Bachelor of Music majoring in Cello Performance (Honours).  Kathryn went on to complete her Master of Music in 2008 at the Queensland University of Technology majoring in production and composition.As a cellist, Kathryn’s playing has taken her all around Australia as well as Asia, Europe and the Pacific.  She has played with Kanye West, Il Divo, Patrizio Buanne, Guy Sebastian, Archie Roach, Musica Viva, the Doch Gypsy Orchestra, Deep Blue Orchestra and at the Brisbane, Woodford Folk and Melbourne Fringe Festivals.  She has also performed as part of the Queensland Music Festival and at the National Country Music Muster.  Kathryn has written and recorded string parts for Shellie Morris, Jamie Dunn, Alyce Platt and Asa Broomhall among others and has also electronically remixed an aria for operatic group Belladiva.In 2004, Kathryn co-founded ‘Angel Strings’ string quartet, which she has since directed for hundreds of events, both local and international.  Having arranged countless pop, rock and jazz tunes for string quartet, Kathryn has helped forge the group’s reputation as an edgy, upbeat group as well as a quality classical act.Having distilled much classical, alternative and electronic music, Kathryn’s original music features voice, keys, strings, laptop and beats.  Her first album SANG CHAUD features the engineering talents of Andrei Maberley (Alanis Morisette, Operator Please) and Leon Zervos (Sterling Sound, Masterdisk). It's opening track 'Stroops' was nominated for a 2010 Q Song Award, while ‘Ladders and Snakes’ was  semi-finalist in the 2012 International Songwriting Competition.   With her band, Kathryn’s live appearances have included the Brisbane Powerhouse, The Zoo, the Hi-Fi Bar, and they have been featured artists at a Tedx Youth Forum.  Kathryn’s music has received airplay on community radio stations throughout Australia as well as on national classical station ABC Classic fm.Kathryn is currently recording material for a new album.SadglintimageThe gazed out solo project of brisbane based, multi instrumentalist, Rohan Cooper, who after the splitting of his former band Tragic/Athletic has performed with various other Brisbane and Melbourne based artists including Carry Nation and Big Strong Brute. This collection of open plan jams and ethereal warblings are the first solo work for Cooper whose live performances weave an intricate array of mutated guitar loops with acoustic percussion and spaced out vocals.
