Concert With Jo Davie and Monique Clare

On Thursday 27 April Nonsemble returns to our spiritual home, the UQ School of Music, to perform a set of beautiful works in collaboration with singer-songwriters Jo Davie and Monique Clare.

Jo Davie

Monique Clare

Jo Davie is an Australian vocalist, composer and researcher currently working on her PhD through UQ School of Music. Jo joins us for three songs - a new Nonsemble arrangement for her song “The Window”, a post-minimalist reinterpretation of indie-folk classic “Flume” by Bon Iver, and “Unkind” from Nonsemble’s 2016 song cycle, Spaceship Earth.

Monique Clare is a songwriter, cellist, and vocalist whose indie-folk laced with chamber pop has earned her multiple awards, international residencies, and high critical praise. Monique joins Nonsemble on cello throughout the concert, and will also perform her 2023 QMA Award-winning song “Downhill Skiing”.

Nonsemble will also perform their recent QMA Finalist track Argentavis, from last year’s Archaeopteryx - an album inspired by giant prehistoric birds. The concert will open with an old favourite from our very beginnings, Practical Mechanics Movement III: Hovercraft.

Original Manuscript of “Hovercraft”

You can attend the concert free in-person at 1pm Thursday 27 April, in The Nickson Room, UQ School of Music. Or you can stream it in realtime or at a later date via this link.
