Phorusrhacos Out Now

What’s this beast, stampeding mightily over the prehistoric South American grasslands? It is the fearsome terror bird Phorusrhacos, with its ludicrously large head (and fabulous hair) thrusting forth to the rhythm of its own soundtrack, as rhythmic strings blend with buzzing sythesizers and pounding electronic drums.

Our flightless hero’s soundtrack is in fact the second single from our album, Archaeopteryx, a suite of compositions inspired by prehistoric birds. Phorusrhacos is one of the more angular pieces from the set, opening with frantic and freewheeling unison strings & synth, but still can’t help unfurling into a stunning melodic theme which carries it through to its climax.

Phorusrhacos has always been one of our favourites to play live; like much of this album, it was developed through many performances exploring a combo of string quartet and live electronics, using the Ableton Push instrument. We feel like the recording has really captured that live energy and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

The single release is sweetened by a belter of a remix by MJ O’Neill, which drags our jilted and heady rhythms into the world of entirely danceable uptempo breakbeats, and topped off by a gorgeously rich illustration of our mate Phorusrhacos by George Levi.

Get it now on bandcamp or stream it on Spotify, Apple Music, TIDAL, and most other platforms.
